Just as during the execution of 27 Czech lords on February 11, 1633, a scaffold covered with black cloth stands on the Old Town Square. Here, the same executioner, Jan Mydlář, beheads 16 officers of Wallenstein's army who deserted from the Battle of Lützen. All commanders take their places on the stand, only Valdštejn himself is not here. He was stopped at the last moment by a young imperial messenger with an important message. This is how Jan Bauer's romantic historical novel, depicting the last act of the life of the Duke of Frydlant, begins dramatically. With the author's exaggeration, he interweaves Wallenstein's hesitancy to oppose the emperor with his sudden outburst of love for a young Protestant noblewoman. This time, the aging warlord overlooks the fact that the stars are not in his favor and succumbs to the call of his heart. He ignores the warnings of his astrologer Senni and lives only for his mysterious lover, who takes him back to the days of his turbulent youth. At the same time, the completely blinded Valdštejn has no idea that the star of his heart is not the star of hope, but of his destruction...
