The theme of the novel Past is the story of people who lead double life. Vít Kail is a moderate notary with a good clientele. He and his wife, Milan, built a tastefully furnished villa on the outskirts of Prague, but their marriage remains childless even after more than ten years. However, unexpected Vít's death reveals that he rented an apartment near his office in the center, lived secretly with his second family and has a nine -year -old son with his second family and is his heir.
