Unusual memories capture the life stories of Edna Adan Ismail, who was the first Somali girl to receive a scholarship at the UK nursing school. It was 1954 and Edna took a major step towards her big dream - to establish her own hospital. An exceptional story of an exceptional woman who, with her resilience and stubbornness, was able to get out of the country and impossible. In her native country she fought the bureaucracy of the authorities, experienced persecution and imprisonment, but never stop helping people. Between 2003 and 2006, the Minister of Foreign Affairs was Somaliland and previously held the post of Somaliland Minister of Family Health and Social Development. She is the founder and director of the maternity hospital Edny Adan, which she opened in Hargeyse in 2002, and a pioneer in the fight for the abolition of female circumcision.
