The process of European integration also affects the medical profession. As part of the cooperation between European medical faculties, programs for international exchanges, internships and hospital practices are being developed. The aim of this manual is to help medics, doctors and other healthcare workers quickly acquire professional vocabulary in English in a practical way, so that they are able to communicate with English-speaking patients or handle documentation written in English without any problems. However, the handbook can also be useful for foreign students when searching for a suitable Czech equivalent.

The first part presents the basic vocabulary needed to obtain a complete history and perform a thorough examination. The second part contains 21 case reports, describing the whole range of emergency conditions that doctors normally encounter. Other, thematically diverse interviews are included in the third part. In the fourth and fifth parts you will find thematic dictionaries, the sixth part contains lists of important diseases and problems sorted by field. A comprehensive list of medical abbreviations and several examples of medical correspondence are given in the seventh section. The last, eighth part then brings an extensive and very useful set of colloquial expressions and turns with which the doctor should be familiar.
