The suffering begins when the older Max falls in love with the daughter of a rich Trieste trader with whom he marries. The bride finds herself in modest domestic conditions, suffering in cold climate, she is unfortunate that her husband is still working, and looking for comfort in verses. He finds understanding with his brother -in -law and returns to his parents. The difficult situation is culminated in the tragedy, after which the family is again cemented, and after difficult, painful life experience Max gains an overlooked but predetermined bride.
