The third part begins with Karl's fight for the crown of the Roman king after Louis of Bavaria, but also with the search for a new bride after the death of his beloved wife Blanka. Karel turns into a decisive and merciless ruler who is willing to choose any path to get his way. Prague becomes the center of the Roman Empire and the luster that Charles gives it corresponds to this, but at the cost of expensive politics and concessions to the domestic nobility and the church. And they have to act in German countries anyway. The novel ends with the publication of the Golden Bull for the empire, thanks to which Charles consolidates his imperial power. The gradual decline of the power of the lords of Landštejn is intertwined with his fate, as the aging Vilém is unable to resist the intrigues of all his noble relatives and his sons are unable to help him.
