The writer Lee Chiao, real name Li Nenggi, was born in 1934 in the north of Taiwan in the district of Miaoli to the family of Hakka. After studying pedagogy for many years he taught at primary and secondary schools. In the past, he also worked as an editor -in -chief in the literary magazine Taiwanese literature and art, as chairman of the Taiwanese PEN club and as an advisor to President Chen Shuibien. He is currently a member of the Committee on the Cultural Affairs of Nationality Hakka.
Lee Chiao is the author of more than two hundred short stories and a number of novels, the most famous of which is a cold night trilogy. In addition to fiction, he also published ten volumes of cultural and literary criticisms, poetry, dramas and biography. In the Czech Republic, the first translation of his short story in 2006 in anthology was the taste of apples. He has won a number of awards for his work.
