The historic thriller The Devil on the Cross discusses the eternal struggle of good and evil in the colors of the Czech High Middle Ages. The narrative is interwoven with beliefs and superstitions, moral dilemmas, small joy and events of ordinary people. It does not avoid power struggles and intrigues of ruling states that will result in a famous battle in the Moravian field.
The axis of the book consists of three basic story lines.
The first one will introduce us to the life of the buyer Mikula. The greedy, carefree mischief collapses the world when his son Jakub, an inconspicuous and clever young man, arises, arises a hidden Grand Master of the Luciferians, a fanatical ministry of the devil. The heartless beast, capable of anything, but essentially convinced of his savior mission, sends a loving father to the bottom.
The second line is occupied by the Czech King Přemysl Otakar II. and his rivals: magnate Boreš of Rýzmburk and Roman King Rudolf I. Habsburg. The mutual hostility between the ruler and the Czech nobleman leads a wronged Boreš to the betrayal against the kingdom. He connects to the arch enemy Přemysl Rudolf, and he will pay off. Both powerful kings in the decisive struggle for government over Central Europe will eventually cross swords.
In the third act, the property of the hungry rule of Smil of Vítkov and the failing robber knight Nicholas of Kamenec will oppose each other. The simple people often pay for the cruelty they cause each other. They still find the way to reconcile.
At the end of the novel, the turbulent stories of the main characters will dramatically intersect. The actions of the characters do not act black and white, because none of them only characterizes good or evil. On the contrary, they are controlled by one and the other, at moments of difficult, fateful elections. The author's intention was to create an attractive and engaging novel in the background of the turbulent period of Czech history, accompanied by surprising reversals for readers.
