World-class aristocrat, eccentric and art dealer Charlie Mortdecai, currently preoccupied with cultivating a new upper lip ornament, is called to Oxford to act as an unofficial investigator to get to the bottom of the tragic accident of a professor there accompanied by a series of suspicious circumstances. However, the path to uncovering the truth turns out to be extremely complicated, and the intrepid searcher faces a series of difficult trials in the form of brutal thugs, secretive bankers, notes written in Greek, the intricacies of the laws of optics or charming Russian agents. However, even the most diabolical of adversaries will not test Charlie's abilities like his irresistible wife Johanna, determined not to let him into the matrimonial bed until he gets rid of his pampered moustache.
