In his 1937 game, Čapek shows his concern about fascism and predicts the outbreak of war. The main character, the compassionate Dr. Galén, discovers a drug for a dangerous disease, but only the poor heals. He refuses the mighty men - politicians and industrialists - until he has a promise to abolish arms and declare war. Despite all his efforts, however, the events take a tragic gradient.

This game at that time addressed so much that in 1937 it was played by film processing under the direction of Hugo Haas, who also played the lead role in the film.
