The book contains fifteen wonderful devilish tales and a selection of proverbs. Its author is Radek Adamec and co-author Antonín Adamec. Ludmila Vašková accompanied her with full-page watercolor illustrations and charcoal drawings. These illustrations are among the real gems. They have their own distinctive character, but we can also sense in them a reference to the works of Jiří Trnka or Karel Franta.
As the world stands, people ask in their minds what fate awaits good and honest people and what fate awaits the bad, vile and sinful. No one has yet found an answer to this question, so everyone is still speculating about which group to join. It is true that people mostly believe in honest dealings, fair retribution and the reckoning of sins. This is also probably why it is still said today: "God's mills grind slowly but surely."
Well, but it often happens that even these mills do not grind, as some would deserve and others wish, and also everyone imagines that justice a little differently. And perhaps that is precisely why hell, devils, and also one of the other popular sayings arose: "Where the justice of God fails, the justice of hell sets in." Hell, according to legends and preserved folk memories, is a terrifying place where the souls of evil, damned and sinful people who were thrown into hell for their sins are trapped, and here they have to endure eternal torment and punishments prepared for them by the infernalists. A proper devil is a sneaky, cunning, terrifying and evil being. They must rule with supernatural powers and abilities, harm people and encourage them to commit sins. His main mission is to watch over the souls in hell and warm them well under the cauldrons in which these souls are tormented by hellish heat. From hell, devils go to the world of people to tempt them and encourage them to do bad things, and then, in return for providing certain services or benefits, obtain a subscription to their souls. During their earthly wanderings, devils take on various human and animal forms, can move invisibly from place to place, and the quality of their spells is directly dependent on their level, status and infernal rank. The supreme and unlimited ruler of hell and all devils is Lucifer himself. It might seem to some that hell is too cruel, but one who wants to do good to the devil must reckon with the fact that he can easily enter hell. And maybe that's why everyone should be careful, because the road to hell is straight everywhere. And it is also said that hell is always open, and accepts even at night.
So: "Come in, and watch out for Rarach. Because as you surely know, there are no jokes with devils.”
