In history textbooks and scientific works we find information about monarchs, famous battles, economy and art, but we learn little or nothing about basic human needs. The book Intimate History introduces the reader to what accompanied people's everyday life since ancient times. The author set himself the goal not only to educate, but above all to entertain the reader. And so alongside the basic historical facts, stories from life, either from old chronicles or from Renaissance satirical literature, appear. The selected documents or stories are not self-serving, but they try to approach basic human needs in historical contexts and clarify what a person really was. The book traces how natural human actions gradually became a social taboo and how shyness and shame were born, all of this based on extensive material from all over Europe.
