In her book, the author describes a huge challenge that is a fight against mental illness. However, this autobiography is deeply optimistic. The author more than well knows what it is like to be really crazy, ie to believe that your thoughts can kill, that your loved ones are cheaters who have conspired against you. He knows what it is like if you can hardly breathe when you are stuffed with drugs to burst when you feel your self falls apart, move away and eventually disappears completely. Nevertheless, she is convinced that her diagnosis will not be a death sentence. In his book, he tells the story of a long struggle with schizophrenia. Since she has to face psychotic attacks, it is incredible that she has been able to build a successful academic career. In this book, he tries to understand his illnesses against which he fights, but at the same time strives to accept her as part of herself.
Battle with mental illness most often start with changes - when she goes home to study at the university when she returns home for holidays when he starts an academic career when he is a lecture at the conference today. Whenever she is stressed, her disease gets worse. He escapes in front of her for the barricades of her mind; sometimes wins, sometimes loses and ends up in the hospital.
Although unpleasant things are described in the book, it does not sound depressed. Elyn Saks is based on her as a woman who is firmly determined not to give up despite difficulties - so she has hope for the future that is so important to everyone. And she can distribute it to others through her work - she studied rights and deals with the protection of the rights of the mentally ill.
