The story of the book takes place in the 1960s, when the "land of fur", ie Canada, was the seat of several mutually competing hunting companies. They tried to move their districts more and more north, where there was a very rare game. And so Lieutenant Hobson is commissioned to establish a new hunting station on the north coast of America, to the Arctic Circle.
Therefore, with a handful of soldiers and hunters, it will take the way from the Great Lake to the Great Bear Lake and from there to the coast - to the seventies of the northern width. Here at the tip of one peninsula he creates a hunting station. However, they have no idea that they stand on the glacier clogged with a layer of clay. The volcanic shake tears the glacier and sails with the staff to the free sea where it begins to slow down slowly.
Hored by a marine stream, it floats the Bering Strait between Russia and Alaska. At the last moment before the disaster, the remaining kra will land with people on one of the Aleutian islands. The thrilling story is, as is customary in Verne, complemented by a number of geographical and natural attractions from the polar regions.
