In the cheap Athens hotel, two men come across each other - Rydal Keener, a young Hochštapler looking for adventures in the world, and Chester Macfarland, a fraudster with several identities, to run from the US police. It's a ghostly moment: Chester is just pulling a dead body along the hotel corridor and Rydal impulsively offers help, perhaps because Chester reminds him of his father. When Chester's young woman Colette joins them, the lives of all three are fatally intertwined into a chain of dramatic events that are unstoppably heading towards a shocking climax in the ruins of the Knosa Labyrinth.
