On 1 June 1953, several important Prague industrial companies, headed by the then mammoth engineering and metallurgical concern ČKD Stalingrad, entered the strike. Workers rebelled against the social consequences of reported currency reforms, came out of the gates of factories, and even prepared a protest march to Prague Castle. The political consequences of such an act would be immense. The leadership of the Communist Party found itself in a precarious situation, because the revolt caused the same races that actively helped to provide a February coup in the streets five years ago. Therefore, there was a threat of fundamental shock of the legitimacy of the whole system. But what has actually changed in this period in the factories? Preserved documents, including unique photographs, allowed the author to reconstruct not only these forgotten events of June, but also a more general atmosphere in the then industry.
