It is written in October 1966. William Lavery has successfully completed his studies, became the youngest balsam in the country and is currently celebrating his holiday dinner. However, he has no idea that he will use his newly acquired skills for the first time in practice - balsamists from all over Britain come together to help in the Welsh city of Aberfan, where a huge tragedy has lost over a hundred children.
What William will experience during that long cold night will change him for good. He forces him to remember his boyish years, at a time when instead of the balsamal track with all his heart he longed to dedicate life to music.
